“DRX® treatment has proved to be a leading technology for the non-surgical and drug-free treatment of chronic lower back pain, like that due to herniated disc, bulging disc, and degenerative disc disease. Clinics and hospitals in some 45 countries are now effectively using the DRX9000™, and there are more than 2,400 systems in use worldwide,” said Saleem Musallam, founder and president of Excite Medical, which manufacturers DRX.
Excite also says that treatment is more than 88 percent effective for patients with chronic lower back pain, according to research conducted by physicians from leading medical schools and research institutions, including the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins University, Stanford University and University of California, San Francisco, and published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Medicine.
Using advanced technology that has been evolving since 2001, the DRX9000™ uses the application of forces to elongate the spine while preventing the contraction of the muscles that guard the spine.
The DRX9000™ decompression device, used by our chiropractors at Spinal Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, is an FDA-approved device designed to reduce pressure on a compressed spinal nerve. The decompression table puts negative pressure on the painful area of the spine. Over time, the painful area of the spine is elongated, relieving the pressure on the nerve and allowing the proper spacing of the spine’s components.
The DRX9000™ True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System employs high-speed computers to carefully monitor the treatment. A specialized system takes the logarithmic (mathematical scale) curve calculations and applies the appropriate forces to create a decompression curve tailored for each patient’s individual spine.
One of the hallmarks of the DRX™ technology system is what the company calls the Nested Closed-Loop Feedback System. This is the process of data continually being fed back into the computer system to monitor treatment. The system constantly checks (a thousand times per second) and corrects the movement. The computer’s constant calculations result in continuous monitoring, measuring and correcting.
Patients that will benefit most from the DRX9000TM True Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression System are those diagnosed with herniated discs, bulging discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease or facet syndrome.
Some patients may experience light side effects with this type of therapy. Mild muscular soreness during or after treatment may occur.
The sensation would be similar to what a person might experience at the onset of a new exercise regimen. Most patients find this therapy quite comfortable and relaxing. During an average 30-45 minute treatment, most patients experience a gentle stretch in the lumbar spine and tend to fall asleep. Adjunctive therapies to non-surgical spinal decompression may include electrical stimulation and cold therapy. Exercise and/or the use of a lumbar support belt may be prescribed to support the benefits of non-surgical spinal decompression therapy and may improve patient compliance.
